Christmas is coming

We have finished the Christmas shopping.  Yesterday Jon and I spent the evening going to different stores finding items from the girl's wish list.  I'm glad the items were not outrageous.  They were practicle in their wishes and the weather was great.  We found parking close to the entrances.

We just might have a white Christmas.

We no longer have the van.  We got rid of it October 31.  Yep Halloween.  The only thing that I liked about it was that it drove great in the snow.  I am now driving the Honda.  It's not as easy to get out of as the van.  I feel like I'm sitting on the street when I drive.  The new truck is great but I haven't driven it very much.  If Jon has to start working in Boise in January I will be driving the truck to keep the mileage down and the cost of gas to Boise would be a little much.  I love the color.  It's red like all of our other vehicles.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

a few hours with no power

Monday night around 5:30 pm the power went out as I was making dinner. I had planned to make some chicken and rice soup. My mouth watered just thinking of it. The power went out and I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner. I had chicken in water to boil. I took that out and put it on the Barbe. It was cold outside, in the teens or lower. It was taking a long time to cook because of the cold. I had to get a flashlight to look at the chicken to see if it was done. I felt like I was outside for half and hour but probably more like 15 minutes. While the chicken was grilling I had tortillas in foil on the BBQ warming up. So we ended up having Grilled Chicken Burritos. It was great. We ate dinner by candle light.

We then had family night by candle light. Leah told the story about Santa telling families to teach their children the meaning of Christmas things. We had different candles around the house and different scents. I didn't have any dessert except Ice cream.

Jessie cleaned the kitchen by candle light. I had an oil lamp and it made great light. I crocheted a slipper since that is what everyone is getting for Christmas.

It was starting to get a little cold by the time the power went on. It was off for 2 hours. It was nice and quiet. Surprising how noise electronic things are.

After Thanksgiving Before Christmas

We had a great Thanksgiving. Grandparents (Riley's) were here visiting for a week. The time went very fast. Nice conversations. Made a trip to the dollar store to get items for crafts.

Ate a ton of food and had leftovers for two days. The final day I made a white chicken chili. Oh yum it was good. I had leftovers for one day with that meal. I was hoping for more leftovers because it was so good.

Had a funeral to oversea with food preparations. Prepared for 75 people and about 40 attended. Our ward is so great with people willing to help and prepare food and donate their time. What would we do without our ward family?

Then Tuesday after the inlaws left our Relief Society had a couples dinner. We over prepared again. It was so good and the program was great.

Jace is doing great on his mission. He had 3 baptisms last week and more planned for this week. I can tell that he is enjoying his mission and is really into it. It is interesting to see how his attitude has changed in this new area Kolar Gold Fields. KGF as it is called. He is now on the downswing of his mission. Wanting information on colleges.

Jon has continued to work out of the house and it's been great having him home. Here's hoping that he can do it in January for the next couple of months after that. It sure has saved on the gas expense.

Jessie is in Young Womens and I think she likes it. She is definitely a tween. Inbetween a kid and a teen.

It's a new day

I thought I would start a new blog. Facebook doesn't leave much room to write so I thought if I had a lot to say I would post on here and add to my facebook for a link.

Stake Conference Sunday had some real good reminders and quotes. I loved the quote from Patriarch Bill Bacon (I guess I should say William, his correct name. Only that I really know him as Bill Bacon. ) He said what he has learned so far about being a patriarch is... "Your answers in prayer are in your patriarchal blessing." When I got home I read mine.

President Johnson quote that I wrote down was "We're spirits having mortal experiences.

Mallory Rhead a returned missionary for almost a year now or maybe even a year talked about missionary work and how she had a saying that she had posted by her study desk everywhere she was at. "I don't want to be saved, I want to be Exalted!"

President Borgolthaus said about raising our children: The three things we should not do. Criticise, Condemn, and Complain. We should always look for the best. I liked this.. If families work together they will get the spirit.

Ok this was a spiritual meeting. I was ready to learn something and I did.
